Could Wiggins Be Headed to Jacksonville?

Could Nate Wiggins be headed to join other former Clemson stars in Jacksonville?

As we approach the 2024 NFL Draft, which is less than five weeks away, a lot of recent mock drafts have the Jacksonville Jaguars taking a cornerback with their first round pick.

Not only that, but some of those mock drafts project Wiggins to be the corner that the Jags select with the 17th overall pick.

One draft analyst who sees Wiggins joining fellow Clemson products Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne and Tyler Shatley in Jacksonville is CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards.

“Jacksonville had to part ways with Darious Williams for salary cap purposes so that creates a need in the secondary,” Edwards wrote. “Nate Wiggins is a high-end man-coverage cornerback who is still a bit inconsistent.”

Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire also recently projected the Jags to draft Wiggins 17th overall, as did Tony Catalina of Pro Football Network.

“Nate Wiggins could (and probably should) go sooner than this, and he may even be viewed as better than some of the picks that have gone before him,” Catalina wrote. “However, in this first-round scenario, he can go to the Jaguars and add big-play ability to their secondary.

“The Jags should feel excited about adding an excellent CB talent to a group that needs it. In my opinion, Wiggins could end up being the best cornerback in this draft class.”

The 6-foot-1, 173-pound Wiggins earned first-team All-ACC honors as a junior in 2023, when he tallied 25 tackles (one for loss), a team-high nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one sack and two interceptions (one of which he returned 46 yards for his second career touchdown) over 10 games (seven starts).

In his career at Clemson from 2021-23, Wiggins recorded 50 tackles (3.0 for loss), 24 pass breakups, three interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), two forced fumbles, a sack and a blocked field goal over 34 games (18 starts).

Whether it’s Jacksonville or somewhere else, Wiggins will find out his NFL destination the 2024 NFL Draft takes place from April 25-27 in Detroit.
