Where Did Former Tigers Land in ESPN’s 7-Round Mock Draft?

With the 2024 NFL Draft right around the corner, an ESPN draft analyst released his seven-round mock draft this week.

Matt Miller made predictions for all 257 picks in April’s draft (subscription required), and he sees half a dozen Clemson products being among those selections.

Nate Wiggins is widely projected to be a first-rounder, and Miller has the Philadelphia Eagles taking the speedy cornerback with the 22nd overall pick.

“The Eagles were middle-of-the-pack in most defensive passing stats after a rough finish to the 2023 season, and their nine interceptions tied for 25th,” Miller wrote. “They signed veteran nickel C.J. Gardner-Johnson and should get Darius Slay and James Bradberry back healthy, but there’s no doubt Philadelphia needs an infusion of top-end talent at cornerback. Wiggins has legendary speed (4.28-second time in the 40-yard dash) that shows up on tape in man coverage situations. He had two interceptions last season, and his combination of length, wheels and hustle would get him on the field early in Philly.”

Miller’s mock draft has two more former Clemson stars coming off the board on the second day of the draft in the third round, including defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro to the Los Angeles Rams (83rd overall) and linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (92nd overall).

“As I mentioned earlier, Donald’s retirement will be felt on this defensive line, even with Kobie Turner expected to fill a bigger role,” Miller wrote. “Orhorhoro is a first-step problem for opponents, and he has power and length at 6-foot-4 and 294 pounds.”

Added Miller of Trotter: “Devin White is gone and Lavonte David turned 34 this offseason, so the Bucs need youth at linebacker. Trotter has the toughness to be a two-down run-stuffer after 28 run stops over the past two seasons.”

Miller projected a trio of Tigers to hear their names called on the final day of the draft, first with running back Will Shipley going to the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round (131st overall).

Miller’s mock draft has defensive tackle Tyler Davis going to the New York Giants in the fifth round (166th overall), where he would team up with Dexter Lawrence on the Giants’ defensive line, and Miller has defensive end Xavier Thomas going to the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round (224th overall), where he would play with former Clemson teammate Myles Murphy on the Bengals’ D-line.

The 2024 NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, with the first round taking place on April 25, followed by Rounds 2-3 on April 26 and Rounds 4-7 on April 27.
