CLEMSON – The depth of pass catchers for Clemson is growing for 2024, and there’s two players taking that step in their second years.
Misun “Tink” Kelley and Ronan Hanafin didn’t see the field much as freshmen for different reasons but offensive coordinator Garrett Riley is impressed by both.
The former dealt with injury in his first season, and he presents a lot of trouble fot an opposing defense. Kelley is known for his speed and shiftiness at 5-foot-10 and he had to redshirt last season with injury.
Similar to what wide receiver Antonio Williams said, Riley is impressed by how Kelley has stepped up later in the spring. He got reps with the first-team and didn’t disappoint.
“Tink’s kind of come on really this back half of our spring. I felt like he’s kind of settled in, gained a little confidence and he’s definitely showed up in some of our scrimmage. Last two for sure and he’s one of those guys that’s kind of a unique weapon,” Riley said.
There’s many ways Riley can use Kelley in the offense. He can be used out of the backfield just as much as a player that can take the top off the defense. Kelley is also a competition for the return job given his expertise.
Hanafin made his way onto the field as a freshman due to his special teams effort, but he’s making the push to get more reps in the offense. He’s a burly receiver at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds and Riley is impressed by his effort.
“Ronan, he’s flashed here kind of like Tink this back half of spring. Made a couple really nice plays today. He’s a guy that’s going to work he’s, going to work his tail off but I think a guy that’s starting to settle in from a technical standpoint. That’s where he’s really needed to grow and I like his positioning right now,” Riley said.
As the spring game approaches, Hanafin and Kelley will be two names to watch on offense. Just one year removed from endless bad luck at receiver, the Tigers may have its deepest receiver room in recent memory.
