A couple of starters on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball will not play in Clemson’s Orange & White Spring Game today.
Senior running back Phil Mafah, senior tight end Jake Briningstool, senior linebacker Barrett Carter and super senior (graduate) safety R.J. Mickens will not see action in the annual intrasquad scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.
Instead, per Clemson Assistant Athletic Director for Football Communications Ross Taylor, the four veterans are expected to serve as student coaches during the contest in order “to free up snaps and opportunities for other players on the roster to showcase themselves.”
The spring game at Death Valley is set to kick off at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
To free up snaps and opportunities for other players on the roster to showcase themselves, several veterans with high career snap totals — Phil Mafah, Jake Briningstool, Barrett Carter and R.J. Mickens — are expected to serve as student coaches for today's Spring Game.
