Texas DB Recruit Got ‘Chills’ During First Clemson Visit

A talented Lone Star State defensive back prospect made his first trip to Clemson last weekend, and his time in Tiger Town certainly didn’t disappoint.

Duncanville (Texas) High School class of 2026 cornerback Braylon Edwards attended the spring game at Death Valley last Saturday and came away very impressed after the unofficial visit.

The Clemson Insider caught up with the 5-foot-11, 175-pound rising junior recruit to get his thoughts on the experience.

“I really enjoyed my visit, it was one of the best I’ve been on,” Edwards said. “The highlight was watching the Tiger Walk, it gave me chills.”

Edwards, who holds multiple Division I FBS offers, traveled to campus with his dad.

“He enjoyed it a lot,” Edwards said.

Edwards liked what he saw from the Tigers in the spring game, which saw the Orange team earn a 27-12 win over the White squad in a contest where the two sides combined for 11 sacks, 21 tackles for loss and three interceptions, including a pick-six.

“I loved the game,” Edwards said. “I liked the way the defense flew around to the ball and set the tone early.”

During the visit, Edwards was able to chat with Clemson cornerbacks coach Mike Reed, who let Edwards know that he’s planning to go see him in spring ball.

Edwards also had the chance to catch up with Corian Gipson, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound true freshman cornerback for the Tigers who enrolled early in January.

The two Texas natives know each other very well and have a good relationship.

“I got to see Corian Gipson as soon as I got there,” Edwards said. “We both laughed because we’ve both gotten bigger since last seeing each other in January.”

Edwards plans to return to Clemson for a game next season, and after getting a taste of what Death Valley is like in person, he would love to have the chance to play there down the road.

“Death Valley definitely didn’t disappoint from when I first got off the bus until I left,” he said. “When I saw the video on the jumbotron, it made me want to lace up my cleats.”

Edwards earned first-team all-district honors as a sophomore last season, when he posted 86 tackles, four tackles for loss, three interceptions and four forced fumbles.

SMU was the first to offer Edwards last year, while Coastal Carolina and North Texas have both offered him since the calendar turned to 2024.
