Could former Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. follow in his father’s footsteps as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles?
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was asked about potentially drafting Trotter Jr.
Of course, his dad – four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Sr. – was drafted by the Eagles in 1998, played most of his 12-year NFL career in Philadelphia and is a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame.
It remains to be seen if Trotter Jr. will carry on his dad’s legacy in Philly, but in response to the question about drafting Trotter Jr., Roseman acknowledged that he is “biased” toward wanting to bring in players with ties to the franchise and city.
Via Pro Football Talk:
“I’m biased towards our hometown players,” Roseman said. “I’m biased towards the people who have legacy with this franchise. So I think that’s hard. And I think that’s why, Coach talked about getting a lot of the information and trying to get myself out of that moment and just trying to make the best decision for the Philadelphia Eagles and not making an emotional decision.”
Roseman didn’t mention Trotter Jr. or any other draft prospect by name in his answer to a question about him, but he did say that it’s tempting to draft players who will appreciate playing in Philadelphia.
“It’s hard not not to want to keep guys who have Philly ties, who understand what it’s like to play here, or to bring those guys in,” Roseman added. “And I do think it’s a plus. It’s a plus to bring someone in this atmosphere who understands what it’s like, and this is the best atmosphere in the National Football League. And I think that they know that when you win, it’s like nothing else that you experience. But it’s different versus people who haven’t experienced before.”
Whether it’s the Eagles or another team, Trotter Jr. will find out where he’s headed to play at the next level when the 2024 NFL Draft takes place next week from April 25-27 in Detroit.
After playing for St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, Trotter Jr. enrolled at Clemson in 2021 and went on to become a multi-time All-American for the Tigers. The 6-foot, 228-pounder amassed 202 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 13 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and four interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns) in his career as a Tiger from 2021-23.
