Hometown Freshman Earning More Innings

The hometown kid continues to prove himself on the mound regardless of the stage.

Clemson freshman pitcher Jacob McGovern made his fourth appearance of the season in the Tigers thriller against Georgia. While the game ended in a tough loss, McGovern turned in another strong outing.

Coming in for the sixth inning, McGovern retired the side with a single walk. He also opened the inning with a highlight curveball for his seventh strikeout of the season.

Over six innings of work, the Seneca native is yet to give up a run and has allowed just three hits along the way. His first opportunity came against Winthrop March 19 and it’s led to this momentum.

As the Tigers bullpen continues to come together into the latter stretch of the season, McGovern is earning the right to be a key part of it.

McGovern was a star at Seneca High School, earning all-state selections and region MVP’s in both his junior and senior seasons. Now it’s translating into impressive work for Clemson and it’s right on time with the postseason inching closer.
