ESPN Analyst Gives Final Draft Projection for Wiggins

Draft day is upon us, and many expect one former Clemson star to hear his name called tonight.

The 2024 NFL Draft kicks off with the first round beginning at 8 p.m., and Nate Wiggins is widely projected to be a first-round pick by various draft analysts, including ESPN’s Matt Miller.

Miller released his final 2024 mock draft on Wednesday (subscription required), and his last projection for Wiggins has the former Tiger cornerback heading to Los Angeles.

Wiggins landed with the Chargers as the No. 23 overall pick in Miller’s final mock.

“The fastest cornerback in the class goes to the Chargers, where the team has a gigantic need that must be addressed early,” Miller wrote. “Wide receiver can wait a little longer, with the Chargers back on the clock at No. 37 in Round 2 and the cornerback class not as deep. Wiggins’ speed (4.28 in the 40-yard dash), motor and length at 6-2 make him a high-ceiling player with a bright future. The Chargers allowed 7.7 yards per pass attempt last season (28th), but he can help.”

Miller recently released his final prospect rankings for this year’s draft, and he ranked Wiggins as the 28th-best prospect overall while giving him a player comparison to former two-time Pro Bowl corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

“Wiggins has locked down the CB1 spot for Clemson the past two seasons, showing excellent speed (4.28) on a big frame,” Miller wrote. “He is lean and can be susceptible to giving up catches on breaking routes, but his length and wheels are intriguing. And he is always around the ball despite limited targets, evidenced by 17 pass breakups over 2022-23. With three career interceptions, scouts will want to see better ball skills, but Wiggins has starter-level traits.”

As an all-conference performer last season, Wiggins tallied 25 tackles (one for loss), a team-high nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one sack and two interceptions across 10 games (seven starts).

Wiggins finished his Clemson career credited by the coaching staff with 50 tackles (3.0 for loss), 24 pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, a sack and a blocked field goal over 34 games (18 starts) from 2021-23.

The 2024 NFL Draft runs through Saturday, with Rounds 2-3 on Friday and Rounds 4-7 on Saturday following the first round tonight. The draft will be televised on ESPN, ABC and NFL Network.
