ESPN: Terrell ‘Next Star Corner’ at Clemson

Nate Wiggins is off to the Baltimore Ravens, but Clemson has another corner that can fill his shoes for the future.

ESPN detailed the players that are taking over for every first-round pick in college football. For the Tigers, losing Wiggins is no easy challenge but Avieon Terrell is prepared for this opportunity.

Terrell started five games as a freshman and really came along towards the end of the season. The win over Georgia Tech was his arrival with an interception and two pass breakups on the start.

Being thrown into the fire as a freshman was huge for Terrell, and it’s why he can step in and produce. The ESPN staff said “he could be the next star corner” in Death Valley.

His role will be far bigger this year, as he’ll team with former five-star recruit Jeadyn Lukas to anchor Clemson’s secondary. The Tigers are loaded in the front seven, so the development of Terrell and Lukas might be the key to a playoff push for a defense that finished last season leading the nation in success rate.

Given the depth of talent up front, Terrell has the tools to make a living in the secondary. It wasn’t hard to tell he’s the brother of NFL All-Pro and former Tiger AJ Terrell. Those are big shoes on their own and he stepped in quickly.

Avieon Terrell showed it on tape. He has the instincts and technique to be an elite corner in college football and he already had the reps to grow as a freshman. Year 2 could be the arrival party.
