Clemson’s 2024 Draft Class might go down as one of its most successful when it is all said and done.
Hear me out.
Because of where the former Tigers ultimately ended up seem to be good fits.
Personally, and as much as I hate to say it because I am a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Nate Wiggins is a great fit in Baltimore. The Ravens like to blitz and play a lot of press man, Wiggins fits right into that system and will work well with the veterans on the team.
Baltimore was in desperate need of an elite cover corner and Wiggins dropped right in their lap at pick No. 30. Man, that sucks!
Personally, I think the Atlanta Falcons trading up to get Ruke Orhorhoro was a reach at No. 35. I am not saying he is not a good pick because he is.
What I am saying is the Falcons could have stayed where they were at No. 43 and got him there. I don’t think other teams had Orhorhoro as high on their board as the Falcons. I could be wrong, but the Falcons have a history of missing using draft picks and I am confident Orhorhoro would have been available to them at No. 43.
With that said, I believe Orhorhoro is a good fit in Atlanta. His play and the way he’s progressed reminds me a lot of D.J. Reader. They are very similar in size and skill.
Like Reader, Orhorhoro is coming into the NFL still a little raw, but there is a ton of upside there and I can see him grow into an All-Pro defensive tackle like Reader did. It also helps he has an All-Pro, and a former Tiger, Grady Jarrett beside him on the defensive front.
I like Shipley in Philadelphia and here is why. Shipley will be valuable as a special teams player, plus his value as a third-down back is huge. The Eagles will use Shipley’s skill set in a lot of different ways. He also has a demeanor that fits the Philadelphia way.
If you think about it, Shipley’s personality fits the city of Philadelphia as well as anybody on the Eagles’ roster.
Xavier Thomas’ success in the NFL only depends on one person – Xavier Thomas. The former Clemson defensive end has the skill, the size and the athletic ability to have a long career in the NFL. He just has to continue to work.
In the NFL, everyone is as talented as Thomas. However, the ones who have a long career outwork everyone. Thomas showed off his work ethic the last two years, as he battled back from a serious foot injury and put himself in position to be drafted.
Now it is his time to show the NFL what we have known at Clemson for years.
Could there be a better fit than Jeremiah Trotter, Jr., landing in Philadelphia? It is obviously one of the greatest fits in the history of the draft.
His dad played for the Eagles, was All-Pro in Philadelphia. He helped take the Eagles to their first Super Bowl appearance in 24 years back in 2004. He is now in the Eagles Hall of Fame.
By the way, his dad’s name is Jeremiah Trotter, Sr. It’s a match made in Heaven.
As for Tyler Davis, the Rams got a steal in the Tigers’ former defensive tackle. Like Jarrett in Atlanta, no one is going to outwork Davis. His drive and hunger to succeed will not only land him on the team, but it will also earn him starting spot on the defensive line one day.
And who knows, maybe he will have a three-sack day in a Super Bowl too.
Regardless, all six of these Clemson Tigers have an opportunity to have a great NFL career.
