With the 2024 NFL Draft behind us, a bunch of media outlets have already begun looking ahead to next year’s draft class and releasing way-too-early 2025 NFL mock drafts.
Clemson players appeared in some of those mock drafts, including rising senior Barrett Carter.
CBS Sports’ 2025 mock draft has the star linebacker getting selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the 19th overall pick.
“Carter was the more versatile and athletic of the Clemson LBs — comparable athleticism to Trenton Simpson, just not as big,” CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson wrote. “He offers much more position flexibility than Trotter Jr., and while not as big as former first-rounder Isaiah Simmons, he is used in a similar jack-of-all-trades role.”
Yardbarker’s way-too-early 2025 mock draft sees Carter coming off the board a few picks later and going to the Houston Texans with the No. 22 overall pick.
“Houston has focused on surrounding C.J. Stroud with talent on the offense, and could stand to get younger in the front seven next year,” Seth Trachtman wrote. “Carter has been a top performer in back-to-back years at Clemson.”
A 2023 second-team All-ACC selection, Carter ranked second on the team in tackles (67) and was credited with 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, six pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery over 12 games (all starts).
The 6-foot-1, 230-pounder enters the 2024 season credited with 170 tackles (21.0 for loss), 9.0 sacks, 15 pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries over 38 career games (26 starts).
Meanwhile, a 2025 mock draft from Fox Sports projects Clemson rising junior offensive tackle Blake Miller to get picked by the Green Bay Packers with the 23rd overall selection.
“It isn’t often that true freshmen start at blue-blood programs like Clemson, but that is the road Miller has traveled on his way to the NFL, earning the nod at right tackle in all 27 games of his college career,” Rob Rang wrote. “Balanced and powerful at 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, Miller could be Clemson’s highest-drafted blocker of the Dabo Swinney era.”
Miller earned third-team All-ACC honors in 2023 following his 2022 freshman All-American campaign.
Miller became the first Clemson non-specialist to start every game of the season in both his freshman and sophomore years since Clelin Ferrell from 2016-17 after Ferrell redshirted in 2015. Miller also became the fourth Clemson offensive lineman under Dabo Swinney to earn All-ACC honors as an underclassman, joining Tyrone Crowder, Jackson Carman and Mitch Hyatt.
