Cardinals Taking XT Could Be Biggest Steal

It came on Day 3, but the Arizona Cardinals selection of Xavier Thomas could age very well.

The former Clemson Tiger was a phenom coming out of high school and it showed up on the field. Due to injuries and personal battles, he’s in the NFL six years later but it doesn’t change what he can be.

That’s why Pro Football Focus named Thomas the best pick Arizona made over the entire draft. Trevor Sikkema detailed what he could bring to a defense in need.

Of course, wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is a great pick and will be an impact player. But getting edge rusher Xavier Thomas, who was ranked 83rd on my big board, at Pick No. 138 is big-time value. Even if he is just a pass-rush specialist, he has the talent to give the Cardinals a very nice return.

Thomas is a freak athlete who had 34 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks during his Clemson career. It’s his impressive bend and strength that can make him a nightmare for offensive tackles in the NFL.

If he stays healthy, Thomas could wind up a steal for Arizona that becomes a key part of its defensive identity.
