ESPN Analyst Pegs Clemson Product Among Top 100 Picks of 2024 Draft

Following the 2024 NFL Draft, an ESPN draft analyst stacked up who he sees as the best picks of this year’s draft.

ESPN’s Matt Miller ranked the top 100 selections (subscription required) based on several factors, including value, scheme fit, how the pick filled a need and more.

One former Clemson Tiger, cornerback Nate Wiggins, was ranked among the best 100 picks of the draft according to Miller.

Of course, Wiggins was taken by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round with the 30th overall pick, and he checked in at No. 35 in Miller’s ranking.

“Veteran Marlon Humphrey enters his age-28 season at cornerback, and the Ravens are looking for consistency opposite him,” Miller wrote. “In Wiggins, Baltimore gets a 6-foot-2 cornerback with 4.28 speed. He also brings a hustle and hunger to the position that fits the Baltimore mentality on defense. Wiggins has to continue to get stronger, but his quickness and ability to eliminate targets will get him into the starting lineup immediately.”

Wiggins is the fifth-ranked cornerback on Miller’s list, behind the Philadelphia Eagles’ Cooper DeJean (Round 2, 40th overall pick) at No. 8, the Detroit Lions’ Terrion Arnold (Round 1, 24th overall pick) at No. 10, the Eagles’ Quinyon Mitchell (Round 1, 22nd overall pick) at No. 12 and the Lions’ Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (Round 2, 61st overall pick) at No. 15.

Wiggins became Clemson’s 15th first-round pick of the last 10 NFL Drafts, and the 18th first-round pick of Dabo Swinney’s head coaching tenure.

The Atlanta native and 2023 first-team All-ACC selection finished his college career (2021-23) with 50 tackles (3.0 for loss), 24 pass breakups, three interceptions (two of which he returned for touchdowns), two forced fumbles, a sack and a blocked field goal over 34 games (18 starts).

Wiggins was one of six Clemson products selected in this year’s draft, along with defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro (Atlanta Falcons, Round 2), running back Will Shipley (Eagles, Round 4), defensive end Xavier Thomas (Arizona Cardinals, Round 5), linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. (Eagles, Round 5) and defensive tackle Tyler Davis (Los Angeles Rams, Round 6).
