NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks, a former NFL player and scout, dove into the Jacksonville Jaguars’ recent decision to exercise the fifth-year options on former Clemson stars Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne.

The pair of 2021 first-round draft choices are now signed through 2025.

Lawrence’s fifth-year option is reportedly worth $25.7 million, while Etienne’s is reportedly $6.7 million.

“This is significant because it suggests that the Jaguars see a long-term future for both players, and it’s really a good thing. I think for Trevor Lawrence, it kind of sets the foundation for the Jaguars to likely do a deal before the beginning of the season this year to keep the franchise quarterback in the fold,” Brooks said on a Bleav in Jaguars episode.

“For Travis Etienne, it just ensures that for the next two years we know that Travis Etienne is going to be in the backfield. It locks him up, it puts him on that fifth-year option of a salary of 6.7 million dollars, and then we’ll see if he’s extended to a long-term deal or if he has to play on a franchise tag to get the big money that he probably wants as a running back.”

Lawrence has started at quarterback for the Jaguars in 50 of 51 regular season games over his first three seasons in Jacksonville, throwing for 11,770 yards and 58 touchdowns with 39 interceptions.

Etienne has served as the Jaguars’ starting running back for the past 29 regular season games. He has amassed 2,133 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns on 487 carries in two seasons since missing his rookie season in 2021 with a Lisfranc injury suffered in the preseason.

Brooks discussed why Lawrence, a 2022 Pro Bowler, could become an MVP-caliber player, and Brooks also talked about why the future is bright for Etienne in Jacksonville.
