Former Tiger WR Reportedly Gets a Shot With Another NFL Team

After recently being released by one NFL team, a former Clemson wide receiver reportedly got a shot with another squad this week.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported that Martavis Bryant was set to work out Wednesday for the Washington Commanders.

Bryant is eyeing a comeback after seeing his last NFL game action in 2018. He was released by the Cowboys last week, though Pelissero reported that he’s drawing interest from other teams in the league that are “expected to bring him in for a look.”

Prior to cutting him loose last week, Dallas re-signed Bryant to a futures deal earlier this year. Before that, he was released by the Cowboys in early January after they signed him to their practice squad this past November, shortly after he worked out for the team once the NFL reinstated him from suspension.

Bryant stuck with the Cowboys’ practice squad for a couple of months but was never elevated to the active roster for game action. The 6-foot-4, 211-pounder most recently played in an NFL game in 2018 with the then-Oakland Raiders. He was suspended indefinitely by the league that season after multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy.

Originally a fourth-round pick (118th overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bryant tallied 145 catches for 2,183 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns while playing for the Steelers and the Raiders from 2014-18.

The Calhoun Falls, S.C. native played at Clemson from 2011-13, recording 61 receptions for 1,354 yards and 13 touchdowns over 37 games (13 starts) in his career.
