For the second consecutive week, D1 Baseball projects Clemson as the No. 6 overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Also for the second consecutive week, the national publication is projecting the Tigers’ in-state rival South Carolina as part of the Clemson regional.
Last week, the Gamecocks were projected as the No. 2 seed in that regional but after getting swept by Tennessee in the final series of the regular season, the Gamecocks are now projected as the No. 3 seed.
Clemson did go 2-0 against South Carolina during the regular season, picking up wins over the Gamecocks at Segra Park and Doug Kingsmore. The series-opener, which was scheduled to be played at Founders Park was originally postponed due to rain then ultimately cancelled after a makeup date couldn’t be arranged.
Louisiana is projected as the No. 2 seed in Clemson’s regional, with Army as the No. 4 seed.
However, there is still more baseball to be played before the regionals are officially announced. The Tigers are in Charlotte for the ACC Tournament this week and will begin pool play on Thursday with an 11 a.m. matchup against Miami, before facing off with Louisville at 3 p.m. on Friday.
With the Hurricanes beating the Cardinals on Tuesday morning, all the Tigers need to advance to the semifinals is a win over Miami on Thursday. While some might now refer to Friday’s matchup with Louisville meaningless, since it has no bearing on whether the Tigers advance, it could still play a factor in Clemson officially locking up one of those top-eight seeds.
The Tigers enter the ACC Tournament at No. 7 in the RPI, with the strength of schedule ranking No. 14.
