Bakich Gives Latest Taylor Update Ahead of Clemson Regional

On Monday, Clemson head baseball coach Erik Bakich gave the latest on Will Taylor. The star outfielder is making progress in his return from an injury.

Bakich had a positive update on Taylor, who has been wearing a cast to protect his left wrist after he had surgery on it last month.

Bakich expects Taylor to get his cast off this week.

“He takes it off this week, if I’m not mistaken,” Bakich said following the announcement of Clemson’s regional field on Monday.

Is more rehab ahead for Taylor once the cast comes off?

Bakich was asked that question, and he joked that Taylor will jump right in and take swings and be “ready to hit jacks.”

In all seriousness, though, Bakich believes there will be a build-up period for Taylor after he sheds the cast.

“I doubt he’s going to just jump in there and start hitting again. There will probably be a build-up time,” Bakich said. “But either way, it’s one step closer to him returning to action.”

Taylor injured his left wrist (glove hand) while making a diving attempt at a foul ball against NC State on April 14. The junior broke a small bone in his left wrist and had a procedure done to fix it.

At the time of his injury, Taylor was starting to get back to the form that made him a highly regarded MLB prospect coming into the season. He had seven home runs and 19 RBIs before the injury.
