Talented Texas QB Looks Forward to Building Relationship with Tigers

This talented young Texas signal-caller is on Clemson’s recruiting radar, and the Tigers paid him a visit earlier this spring.

While out recruiting in the Lone Star State, Clemson offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Garrett Riley stopped by Bastrop High School (Bastrop, Texas) – home to class of 2027 quarterback Weston Nielsen.

The fact that Riley came by to see Nielsen meant a lot to him, especially considering Clemson’s lineage of starting quarterbacks in recent years.

“Clemson has had a lot of great QBs like (Trevor) Lawrence, (Deshaun) Watson and (Cade) Klubnik that I look up to,” Nielsen told The Clemson Insider, “so it was an honor for Coach Riley to come watch me throw in Bastrop.”

A 6-foot-2, 165-pound rising sophomore, Nielsen already holds double-digit scholarship offers.

Of course, Clemson has yet to offer any 2026 recruits, much less prospects in the 2027 class like Nielsen. It’s very early in his recruiting process, but he believes Riley is interested in him.

“I believe Riley was happy with what he saw,” Nielsen said, “but do know they do not offer early, so I look forward to continuing to build a relationship with them.”

Nielsen said he “really” hopes to visit Clemson soon, something he hasn’t had the chance to do yet. He’s high on the Tigers’ program and explained what appeals the most to him about it.

Earning an offer from Clemson down the road would be a big deal to Nielsen, he said.

“The biggest standout for me is the time, dedication and effort they put into developing their QBs,” he said. “Being that I aspire to develop as a QB the way Clemson QBs perform, it would mean a lot to receive an offer.”

Nielsen’s current offer list includes Arizona State, Baylor, Miami, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Oregon, TCU, Texas Tech and others. Oregon was the first to offer him this past September.

Nielsen was impressive as a freshman last year, throwing for around 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns in just five games, per MaxPreps.
