For the second consecutive summer, CJ Britt will come and throw for the Clemson coaching staff.
The 2026 QB saw his sophomore season at Lanier Christian cut short due to injury and now that he is fully healthy, Britt is anxious to get back on the field and sling it around for collegiate coaches.
“Last year I wasn’t really clear cut, this year, definitely coming here being a clear cut kid,” Britt told The Clemson Insider. “I want to let them know that I’m here and let them know to look at me as a quarterback prospect.”
Over his first two high school seasons, Britt has proven to have a unique skillset that he plans to put on full display on Tuesday when he works out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp.
“Accuracy, vision, playmaking and leadership,” Britt said.
While he might reside in Georgia, Clemson has always held a special place in Britt’s heart, as the young signal caller has always admired how Swinney runs his program.
“The coaching and Christ character of Dabo,” Britt said. “Just the excellence that he holds everybody to and the relationships he has with all his players.”
Swinney’s stance on the transfer portal is another thing the up and coming quarterback admires.
“It just shows his culture and that he won’t change his ways, even as time is evolving,” Britt said. “And he’s proved himself. He’s always had a good record. He’s won two national championships. I just love that he stands firm in what he believes in. Loyal.”
Britt went out and earned the starting gig as a freshman at Lanier Christian. Something not so easy to do. And he did not fail to produce, having the kind of season that would catch most coaches eyes. He got off to another dazzling start during his sophomore campaign, but it would be cut short due to a broken arm suffered in his fourth game.
Britt was averaging 327 passing yards and five touchdowns per game before the injury. His QBR of 142 was second only to Tennessee commit Jake Merklinger’s 147 in the state. He was on pace to have the type of season that results in multiple collegiate offers before fate stepped in and cut it short.
Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Duke are some of the other camps Britt is planning to attend. He is also hearing from Georgia, Coastal Carolina, Cincinnati and Houston.
As he goes through these summer visits, Britt is looking for a school with a strong culture, something Clemson is well-known for.
“Character of the coach,” Britt said. “A school that loves me and wants to invest in me even after I leave, after school. Just a good environment to be around.”
