A highly touted offensive lineman from Pennsylvania is making his first visit to Clemson today.
Cumberland Valley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) four-star Tyler Merrill will be among the top prospects participating in the second day of the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.
The Clemson Insider caught up with Merrill, a top-65 national prospect in the 2026 class, ahead of his first trip to Tiger Town.
“I’ve been told that Clemson is the sort of ‘Notre Dame’ of the South in terms of history and recruiting style, and I know I fit well with the ND culture, so I’m just interested and excited to see what it’s all about,” Merrill said. “I’m just going to go to have fun and see something new, with no expectations from the coaches.”
Notre Dame is among the high-profile programs that have offered Merrill this spring, along with others such as Georgia and Alabama.
His list of more than two dozen offers also includes schools like Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Duke.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound rising junior is the No. 4 interior offensive lineman and No. 63 overall prospect in the country for his class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
How would Merrill describe his interest in Clemson’s program heading into today’s visit?
“My overall interest level is pretty intrigued so far, since they have a great history with linemen in the past, and some of the top recruits now as well,” he said. “So since it’s my first time, I’m just looking for first impressions.”
Merrill, who has a couple of other visits scheduled as well, is in the process of exploring his many options and isn’t in a hurry to make his college decision.
“I am visiting Wisconsin soon in June, and I’ll be back in Michigan in July,” he said. “I have a few schools that have jumped out to me, but I’m still evaluating and taking my time.”
