4-Star LB Target Recaps Clemson Official Visit: ‘Can’t Beat the Experience’

Just one linebacker was invited to Clemson’s big official visit weekend.

4-star Kamar Archie (Hun School, Princeton, NJ) made his second visit to campus this calendar year and the blue-chip talent came away overly impressed with the culture inside the program.

“I would definitely say the culture,” Archie told The Clemson Insider. “You could tell Clemson is full of great people. Just people that want you to be great in life and to grow on and off the field. I was there in the spring, and I learned so much more about the program that it really makes Clemson very high on my board.”

While the group spent time on the lake on Friday and took part in a scavenger hunt Saturday afternoon, the part Archie enjoyed most was on Saturday evening, when the whole group convened at Dabo Swinney’s house.

“All the recruits and families linked up at coach Swinney’s house,” Archie said. “Just being able to connect with the other recruits and see what the Clemson family is like. You got the coaches and their families that came down. And just seeing how everyone connected and everything. Gelled perfectly. Was just great to see that Clemson culture.”

And the fact that he was the only linebacker to receive an invite was something that did not go unnoticed.

“Means a lot to me,” he said. “Just knowing how special Clemson is, that I was the only linebacker there. That plays a big part in my recruitment, as well, with me making my final decision. Just because I know the importance they have, like how important I am to Clemson and coach (Wes) Goodwin.”

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker also got to spend time learning some of the nuances of Goodwin’s defense and exactly how he would fit in.

“Just really understanding the defense,” Archie said. “Understanding how I would be used. It was really great. Can’t beat it. You can’t beat the experience.”

Texas A&M was supposed to get an official, but Archie has scratched those plans and is now just focusing on Clemson, Rutgers (June 14-16) and Michigan (June 21-23).

The blue-chip talent is hoping to have a decision made after the last official visit, sometime in early in July, and Clemson absolutely checks the boxes when it comes to what he is looking for.

“Definitely culture, I got to make sure the culture fits me,” Archie said. “I don’t want to be somewhere where I’m not happy. Obviously, Clemson did a great job with that. I think the people that’s there, the people that’s around these players, and the players that they bring in a really great people. You don’t really hear too much trouble about any of the players or anything at Clemson. That’s really one of my main things.”

“And then, of course, my development as a player. But being at Clemson, you’re going to be developed as a player and a young man, which is very important as well. So those two things really are important to me. And of course, academics. Something they really emphasize there is graduating and me and my parents love the fact that they have a 99% graduation rate that is only for the football team. That is a huge stat.”
