A Clemson target has shut his recruitment down.
3-star OL Mal Waldrep (Central, Phenix City, Al) announced a commitment to Alabama on Tuesday, choosing the Crimson Tide over other finalists Clemson, Tennessee and Florida.
The 6-foot-5, 320-pound recruit originally set a commitment date of July 10, but after taking official visits to Clemson and then Alabama the past two weekends, Waldrep has made his decision.
Waldrep was one of the Tigers’ opening offers last June and has made multiple trips to campus since, including for the Elite Retreat back in January and the big official visit weekend just over a week ago.
“I’m looking for where I’m going to be most successful,” Waldrep told The Clemson Insider in May. “Whether that’s development, whether that’s just me being happy. I’m not necessarily looking for playing early or NIL money. I’m looking to be developed and I’m looking to win. I’m looking for winners for sure.”
Clemson already has three offensive linemen committed in the 2025 class in 4-stars Brayden Jacobs, Rowan Byrne and Easton Ware and despite missing on Waldrep are as expected to take as many as two more in the class. 5-star David Sanders, along with 4-stars Hardy Watts and Mario Nash Jr are still uncommitted targets still one the board.
