In-State Wideout Talks Being First 2026 WR with Clemson Offer

During the opening session of Dabo Swinney’s high school camps several top wide receivers in the 2026 class worked out for the Clemson coaching staff, with one of those being in-state prospect Donovan Murph.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound 4-star recruit (Irmo) was a standout working out alongside other wideouts that included Jordan Gidron, Naeem Burroughs and Ole Miss commit Dillon Alfred.

“Coach (Tyler) Grisham, he told me he was trying to get all the top guys together,” Murph told The Clemson Insider. “It was great to see all them guys competing. I was having fun watching guys too.”

Murph would end up earning an offer from the Tigers in the process, and while he may not have been the fist to announce publicly, he was the first wide receiver in the class to pick one up.

“When they told me I was the first receiver to get offered in the 2026 class, it was just great,” Murph said. “It was a blessing when I really realized how big it was.”

Clemson has long been recruiting Murph, despite the offer just going out and Tennessee, Auburn, South Carolina, NC State, Alabama, Ole Miss and Oregon are some of the other schools he is currently hearing from the most. Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas A&M are all set to get summer visits.

However, despite still being early in his recruitment, Clemson stands out, and it’s due to the Tigers’ meticulous process on the recruiting trail.

“Just the process in terms of they’re not offering either just anybody,” Murph said. “It’s great to see that, because I know I’m really being evaluated. They really want me to be a part of the program. That is why the offer means so much, because they’re really selective in the guys that they want. Some people don’t like the process, but I actually like it, you know, because I was really able to do everything. They was able to evaluate my tape, I was able to go put on for coach Swinney, and it all like feels great at the end, because I know, like I really got it out the mud, and I really earned it. So it is just great to know that they believe in my talents and what I can bring to their program.”

While there is no timeline for making any decision, Murph said it’s possible he puts out a top schools list by the end of the summer. Although, even if he doesn’t, he knows what he is looking for in a college destination and he feels like several schools currently fit the criteria.

“I’m just looking for a school that compliments me as a player, a great system that I can build in, and a great system that can help me become a great young man,” Murph said. “Ultimately, I just want to be developed into one of the best receivers. And I know some of the schools I have offers from can help me get to that and develop and have longevity in the NFL. That’s really my biggest goal is to have longevity. Not just make the league but be there for a long time.”
