Talented Defensive Prospect Takes on Dabo Camp

Last week, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney held his annual football camp, bringing in young prospects from across the country to come and participate in his multiple sessions of drills and techniques.

One such prospect came straight out of Raleigh, N.C. Rising senior Xavier Lewis, coming off his visit to Mercer’s Mega Camp and Gardner Webb’s camp, traveled to Clemson with his passion for growth and for the Clemson Tigers.

“I like Clemson. I like it a lot,” Lewis said. “It has always been a big school for me growing up. It would be amazing to play for the most successful coach in the business right now.”

Lewis is undoubtedly the type of player who could fit nicely to a team like the Tigers. Playing football ever since he physically could, Lewis delivers his presence all across the field — defensive end, tackle, tight end, running back, and linebacker. He is a proven athlete, winning CAP6 Player of the Year in his previous season at Leesville High. After his amazing 2023 season, Lewis is headed to Rolesville High School for his senior year.

Not only has Lewis been a threat on the field but also on the mat. He was fourth in his state in heavyweight wrestling, going an impressive 50-4 in his career. At 6-foot-1, 250 pounds, Lewis has brought his talents to multiple different sports and programs.

With his interest in Clemson University and the football program, Lewis and his mother, Erika, drove to Clemson to see what Swinney’s Camp had to offer. From his appearance and performance on the field and the comments he made, the experience seemed earned and well worth it.

“I liked the camp; it was well run,” he said. “The sections and groups we were in were efficient. A lot of (other) camps aren’t really efficient.”

Lewis mentioned his favorite part of the camp were the hip drills and how important that was for him to display his talent and get extra work in.

“Being able to go through the hip flip drills and showing I can actually flip them better than most,” he said.

With nearly a dozen offers ranging from Gardner Webb, Wofford, and Charleston Southern, Lewis has gained attention and is expected to achieve more. Lewis already plans to attend Duke’s and UNC’s camps with more expected soon.
