Versatile Texas ATH says Clemson ‘Best Place I’ve Been So Far’

A talented, versatile athlete from the Lone Star State recently traveled to Tiger Town and had the chance to showcase his skills at camp.

Seminole (Texas) High School class of 2026 prospect Caton Cramer participated in the first day of the Dabo Swinney High School Football Camp on June 4.

“It was really good,” Cramer said of his camp visit experience in an interview with The Clemson Insider. “The facilities are really nice. All the coaches are really supportive. Dabo always has a really good message. All the players there had a lot of wise words to tell us, and I really grew as a player and probably more as a teammate.”

Cramer received the camp invite from Clemson, and the 6-foot-4, 190-pound rising junior worked out as a tight end.

“They said that I did amazing and that I just gotta keep on working, and the future will tell what happens next,” Cramer said of the feedback he got from Clemson’s staff about his camp performance.

This year marked the second time that Cramer has camped at Clemson.

“They invited me as a freshman and they said they were interested, and then when I came back this year, they said to try to put some weight on and that they are interested,” Cramer said. “So, they just want me to be patient, and just hope for the best.”

Cramer, who has collected a handful of power conference scholarship offers, plays all over the field for his high school squad.

Per MaxPreps, he caught 75 passes for 757 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore last season, to go with 699 rushing yards and 13 more scores on the ground.

“My school doesn’t really have a tight end spot, so I’m more of a receiver. I’m an all-around player at my school,” he said. “Like, they’ll put me as a receiver, sometimes slot, sometimes running back, sometimes wildcat, and now I’m going to be starting playing defense.

“But getting recruited for tight end, I’m new to a lot of the stuff. So I’m not really sure on how to do things, and that’s why I’m going to all these camps to improve on that spectrum of my game.”

Arizona, Baylor, Houston, SMU and Texas Tech have offered Cramer. Along with Clemson, he named Oklahoma State, TCU, LSU, Arkansas and Texas as some other schools showing interest.

After Clemson, Cramer has traveled to several other schools this month, including  Alabama, Texas A&M, TCU, Oklahoma State and SMU.

As for his experience at Clemson, he certainly came away highly impressed.

“The coaches are amazing. They’re really supportive. When you do something wrong… they’re going to tell you what you did wrong, how to fix it,” Cramer said. “I love the leadership from the players. A lot of the tight end players, when someone made a good catch, they would celebrate with them and not just stand there and not do anything. And then I liked how the facility, how there’s a lot of things to help the players…

“It was unbelievable, and it’s the best place I’ve been so far, and no one’s really stood out like Clemson has or even compared.”
