Erik Bakich is preparing to lose multiple players from his Clemson team that made it to a Super Regional in 2024.
The head coach has already spoken about the possibility of Tristan Smith, Will Taylor and Austin Gordon all signing with MLB teams after the draft in July. Two of those players, as well as two incoming freshmen have now been invited to the MLB Draft Combine, which features some of the top high school and college baseball prospects who are eligible for the 2024 MLB Draft.
Gordon and Taylor have both received invites, with incoming freshmen Chase Harlan (3B) and Dane Moehler (RHP), both expected to be on hand as well.
Taylor saw his junior season cut short due to a broken bone in his wrist. He appeared in 32 games, hitting .230 with seven home runs and 19 RBI. It has been widely assumed that Taylor would leave for the draft after his junior season.
After moving into a relief role in late March, Gordon became one of the top closers in the country down the stretch. In 17 appearances out of the bullpen, the hard-throwing junior notched 11 saves with a 2.19 ERA and opponents hitting just .131 against him. He struck out 35 in 24 2/3 innings over that same stretch, while walking just nine.
Harlan is one of two incoming freshmen who is very likely to hear his name called at some point in the draft. He is ranked No. 124 in MLB’s draft prospect rankings and has a 9.5 grade on Perfect Game.
Moehler is the other incoming freshman could also hear his name called at some point. The right-handed pitcher currently ranks No. 166.
The Combine will be held June 18-23 at Chase Field in Phoenix, and players will have the opportunity to participate in a series of medical and performance assessments, as well as educational programming designed to prepare them for a career in professional baseball.
