In college baseball, some freshmen never make it to campus.
Two of the incoming freshmen for Clemson this fall, Chase Harlan (3B) and Dane Moehler (RHP), are currently at the MLB Draft Combine, showing off their skills for scouts.
Harlan was one of the the standouts of Day 1. He had the longest home run of the day at 453.4 feet, and the second highest exit velocity of 112.4 MPH.
Harlan ranks No. 124 overall in the MLB’s draft prospect rankings and considered one of the better third basemen in the draft.
“Harlan is a big, strong, physically mature corner infielder with some serious pop. He had more of a power-over-hit profile, with a little more strength than pure bat speed, but there is some belief the bat might eventually catch up with the raw power. He began the summer hitting from a crouch with a lower handset, but by the time he was in Jupiter at the Perfect Game event, he had raised his hands back up and was letting them work more freely, showing a better hit tool overall.”
“Speed isn’t a huge part of Harlan’s game, but he’s posted decent run times and been fairly athletic in the past. He seemed more bulked up and less agile early this spring, though he has at least an average arm and should have every chance to stay at third base. If the swing changes stick, he should have more than enough bat to profile well at the hot corner.” – MLB.com
