While Cortez Mills canceled his official visit to Miami this weekend, it appears he has now set a new one.
The 4-star wideout (Homestead, Fl) is on the guest list for an official visit to LSU this weekend. Mills took an official visit to Clemson the first weekend in June, then followed that up with officials to Florida, Nebraska and Oklahoma. He was supposed to take one to Miami this weekend, but announced earlier in the week that visit was off.
With the Tigers still looking to add one more receiver to the class, Mills has long been one of the top targets. He was one of just two wide receivers invited to the big official visit weekend, with the other being 4-star Samari Reed (Monarch, Pompano Beach, Fl).
“Clemson, it’s a great program,” Mills told TCI after the official to Clemson. “Being on the football field, you’re gonna be surrounded by great people, and the atmosphere is through the roof.”
Coming off that visit to Clemson, Mills seemed to be trending in the Tigers’ direction. Fresh off his visit to Norman last weekend, many feel like the Sooners made enough of a move to become a legitimate contender. Now that he has scheduled the visit to Baton Rogue, the question becomes can LSU make a late move.
Right now, the only thing that seems certain is that Miami is now out of it. And the Hurricanes were once considered the favorite, seeing as Mills is from South Florida and he’s taken numerous visits to the school.
Maybe the blue-chip talent is just seeing his recruitment through in an effort to make the most informed decision he can. Mills has said on more than one occasion that he is looking for a school with a strong culture. Either way, this one appears to be winding down, as Mills has has also said he will be looking to sit down and make a decision in early July, after he finishes up his official visits.
“I just want to go somewhere where I feel comfortable at,” Mills said. “Trusting the receiver coach, the coaching staff. Who’s gonna help develop me on and off the field. That’s really about it. I just want to go somewhere I’m comfortable at and a place that the coaches are not just communicating with me, but also with my family. So my family will know that I’m 100-percent good wherever I go.”
