TCI Recruiting Roundup: What’s Left on Clemson’s OL Board

Clemson already has three highly-touted offensive linemen on board in the 2025 recruiting class, but the coaching staff is still looking to add as many as two more.

4-star Easton Ware was the first of the three to join the class, committing way back in November of last year. 4-star Brayden Jacobs followed with a commitment of his own at the Elite Retreat in January, with 4-star Rowan Byrne announcing in June just after the big official visit weekend.

Several more targets were on hand that first weekend in June, with one coming off the board on Sunday, when 4-star Mario Nash Jr announced a verbal pledge to Mississippi State. Here’s where things stand with the three remaining uncommitted targets that took official visits to Clemson.

5-Star David Sanders Jr: Arguably the top target on Clemson’s board regardless of position. And has been for quite some time. This recruitment has been full of twists and turns, with the Tigers being named the leader at different times throughout the process. However, Sanders has appeared to trending in the opposite direction once we got out of the spring and into summer officials.

Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Ohio State all got officials, along with Clemson. His last official was with the Buckeyes over the weekend. There has been a lot of chatter about the Volunteers being the leader for his services down the stretch, but it’s hard to discount Georgia or Ohio State here. A decision is probably coming sometime next month.

4-Star Hardy Watts: Clemson, Wisconsin and Michigan are the three finalists, but this one is coming down to the Wolverines and Tigers. There is no denying that the Tigers knocked it out of the park on his official that first weekend in June.

“They definitely set the bar and I’d say that they’re the standard,” Watts told TCI coming out of that visit.

While that quote is very telling, it doesn’t necessarily mean someone else couldn’t hit that same bar, or even surpass it in the weeks since. Which leads us to Michigan, where Watts spent the weekend. The Wolverines made moves with several targets over the weekend, even landing a couple of big commitments, and they are the defending national champions. Watts has said on multiple occasions that he expects to sit down and make a decision after his final official, which means a commitment date should be forthcoming.

4-Star Max Buchanan: Buchanan is a little harder to get a good read on. Being from Florida, the Seminoles have always been in the mix as legit contenders, but his official to Clemson really hit the mark, considering he was not able to get to town for the Elite Retreat back in January.

Buchanan raved about the Clemson culture after the visit and also spoke very highly of offensive line coach Matt Luke.

“I know he can even get me to where I want to be in the future, and he’s proven it time and time again,” Buchanan told TCI. “He consistently is putting guys in the league, and he’s always recruiting the top guys.”

Along with Clemson and Florida State, Buchanan also took officials to UCF, Ole Miss, Miami and he was at Penn State over the weekend. While Watts and Sanders get much of the attention, Buchanan would be a solid addition to the Tigers’ 2025 class. At least one recruiting service ranks him inside the Top 100 overall and among the Top 10 interior linemen in the country.
