TCI Recruiting Roundup: Clemson Waiting on Decisions from Multiple WR Targets

Clemson expanded its wide receiver board on Monday, with 4-star Dillon Alfred announcing an offer from the Tigers.

For weeks, I had been working under the impression that Clemson was only looking to take one more receiver in this class, in addition to 4-star Ju Ju Preston, who announced a commitment late last year. 3-star Marquise Henderson is also on board, and was taken as an ATH after spending some time working out at receiver at camp last summer.

However, while at camp, one contact told me not to be surprised to see two more added, and that is exactly how it’s playing out. Or at least the effort is being made to add two more. 4-stars Cortez Mills and Samari Reed were the two wideouts at the big official weekend, and both are still uncommitted.

The newly offered Alfred (Saraland, AL) had been committed to Ole Miss since April, but would back out of that verbal pledge upon receiving the Clemson offer. It’s the offer Alfred had been hoping to pick up.

The 5-foot-11 wideout traveled to Clemson earlier this month and worked out at camp in an effort to earn that offer. It was the only camp he attended this summer. After turning in one of the best performances from any receiver I watched that week, Alfred has now accomplished what he set out to do. He plans to return for the All In Cookout in July and make a decision at some point before August. While nothing is official, the writing appears to be on the wall here.

Things are a little less clear with Mills and Reed. Mills (Homestead, FL) started receiving predictions for Clemson after his official visit, and he even named the Tigers as the leader publicly. Since then he has taken officials to both Oklahoma and LSU, and the Sooners absolutely made a move with the blue-chip talent. It is still unclear exactly how much the visit to LSU impacts his decision.

While some might view the offer to Alfred as Clemson knowing they missed on Mills, that is not the case. They would take both, based on what I have been told. Either way, the longer this plays out with Mills, the better it could be for Clemson. A decision is expected at some point over the next couple of weeks. Mills is currently competing in the Rivals 5-Star Challenge in Jacksonville.

Reed (Monarch, Coconut Creek, FL) is one of those recruits that is hard to get a good read on. He is fresh off an official to Penn State. Kentucky, Ole Miss and West Virginia also got officials. No word yet on when he plans to announce.

After having signed a stellar class in 2024 by landing two former 5-stars in Bryant Wesco and TJ Moore, receivers coach Tyler Grisham could be on the verge of another really good haul in 2025.
