Tempers apparently flared, and Gutierrez described the training camp encounter as “wild”:
“Wild Raiders camp moment,” Gutierrez posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Robert Spillane and UDFA C Will Putnam got into it twice, then Maxx Crosby entered the fray, throwing at least 3 punches at Putnam before ripping Putnam’s helmet off and throwing it downfield. A two-time All-ACC center for the Tigers, Putnam agreed to an undrafted free agent deal with the Raiders following April’s NFL Draft.
Putnam was a four-year starter along the offensive line for the Tigers, including two seasons at guard in 2020-21 and two all-conference campaigns at center in 2022 and 2023.
