Good News for Injured NFL Tiger

Good news for a former Clemson defensive lineman who was injured in his NFL team’s practice earlier this week.

Cincinnati Bengals second-year defensive end Myles Murphy had to be carted off the field after suffering a non-contact knee injury Tuesday in Cincinnati’s joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts.

However, Murphy got positive news on his status after being evaluated for the injury.

According to NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo, Murphy appears to have avoided a serious injury and is only expected to miss a few weeks.

Murphy is entering his second NFL campaign after being selected by the Bengals in the first round (28th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder earned more playing time over the second half of last season and ended up logging 305 snaps on defense across 17 games.

Murphy got off to a slow start but improved as the season went on, finishing with 20 total tackles, three tackles for loss, three sacks and three quarterback hits. Impressively, he posted the second-highest pressure rate among all rookies, according to Next Gen Stats.

A former top-five national recruit and multi-time All-ACC selection, Murphy joined the Bengals following his Clemson career (2020-22) during which he racked up 139 tackles (37.0 for loss), 17.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and six pass breakups over 38 games (27 starts).

Murphy could be ready to go when the Bengals begin the 2024 regular season against the New England Patriots on Sept. 8. Regardless, it doesn’t sound like the 22-year-old will be out long.
