Swinney Asked Why Tigers Didn’t Release Monday Depth Chart This Week

In the Week 1 game notes released by Clemson on Monday, the “depth charts” page notes that “Clemson’s initial depth chart for the 2024 season will be available at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on game day.”

During his Tuesday press conference, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was asked about the reasoning behind not releasing a Monday depth chart this week, like they have typically done on game weeks in the past, and why the Tigers are waiting to put out a depth chart for Saturday’s season opener against Georgia.

“Yeah, I mean, just so y’all would ask,” Swinney joked. “Just to make y’all have to dig a little deeper … I guess that’s it. I don’t know, it seems like a new thing.”

Swinney was asked if he knew when the last time was that the Tigers didn’t release a Week 1 depth chart.

“I have no idea,” Swinney said.

It’s worth noting that Georgia typically hasn’t released a Week 1 depth chart during Kirby Smart’s time as head coach. Georgia’s portion of the “depth charts” page in Clemson’s Week 1 game notes reads, “Please see Georgia’s game notes for details and insight on team personnel.”

Saturday’s Aflac Kickoff Game between the 14th-ranked Tigers and No. 1 Bulldogs in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set to kick off at noon and will be nationally televised on ABC.
