During ESPN’s College GameDay this morning, Kirk Herbstreit commented on Clemson coming off its 34-3 loss to Georgia in Atlanta last Saturday.
Herbstreit believes Dabo Swinney’s team will bounce back from the lopsided defeat to the top-ranked Bulldogs in Week 1.
“I think if you look at Clemson, they’re going to be better than almost everybody they play in the ACC,” Herbstreit said. “They’re going to recalibrate and be fine.”
As for former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei and his Florida State team, as well as former Clemson coach Billy Napier’s Florida team, Herbstreit thinks “they feel different” than the Tigers.
Of course, FSU is 0-2 after losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College, while Florida began the 2024 season with a blowout home loss to Miami last Saturday.
“Florida State can’t run the football,” Herbstreit said. “Everyone’s talking about DJU. Trey Benson last year really helped set the tone for that offense and put Jordan Travis in a very comfortable situation to be effective as a balanced offense. They can’t run the ball, and they’re not being able to get the ball thrown downfield with DJU and this new group of receivers. So, that’s a very big concern for me with Florida State. And then Florida, they’re 11-15 under Billy Napier. They’ve lost six games in a row.”
Florida hosts Samford at 7 p.m. tonight, while FSU has an open date today before hosting Memphis next Saturday. Clemson and FSU will meet on Oct. 5 in Tallahassee.
The 25th-ranked Tigers will try to earn their first win of the season when they take on Appalachian State in Death Valley tonight (8 p.m., ACC Network).
