Over the past few years, Max Brown has grown very familiar with the Clemson program.
Brown has been in attendance at each of the Tigers’ first two games, as he was a guest of Clemson for the season-opening loss to Georgia in Atlanta. However, what he saw on Saturday night was a different kind of experience.
The fact that this was his first time attending a night game in Death Valley is what made it different and the raucous sold-out crowd made an impression.
“It was the first time I’ve been to a full night game,” Brown told The Clemson Insider. “So when the fourth quarter hit and they did the light show, that was unreal. It was absolutely astonishing. I was at a loss of words.”
Brown’s older brother, Sammy, is a freshman linebacker for the Tigers. Having watched his sibling go through the recruiting process with Clemson, the younger Brown has become quite familiar with everything Dabo Swinney’s program has to offer.
Being on hand when his brother took his first defensive snaps at the collegiate level is something Brown will never forget.
“It was just something that I couldn’t believe,” he said. “It was unreal, just like I always imagined watching him playing in a college football game in front of a national audience. It’s just something unreal, like, I can’t believe it.”
And having a brother that is a veteran of the recruiting process is something else that is proving beneficial.
“(Sammy’s) definitely been a mentor,” Brown added. “Just telling me about stuff, just coaching me up whenever I need it. On just going to schools, just how the coaches are and what college is like, football wise.”
Brown is just a high school sophomore, but is already developed to the point as a linebacker that many schools have already gotten in on him early. South Florida, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Duke, Ohio State, UCF, Indiana, Purdue, Louisville, Tennessee and West Virginia have all offered and as he continues to get older, more suitors will follow.
When comparing Clemson to some of the other programs that are currently recruiting him, Brown said the Tigers really stand out.
“Clemson is incomparable,” Brown said. “It’s just everything that you’re looking for in a college. Amazing coaches, amazing culture, amazing players, amazing fans, amazing atmosphere. Just an ideal college for where someone like me would want to go. And 40 minutes down the road. So it’s not like I’m having to travel long a way and I can come home whenever.”
The Tigers won’t even start handing out offers to kids in his class until next summer, as Swinney’s program takes a much more methodical approach than most when it comes to the recruiting process. However, Brown is in no rush, and feels like if he just continues on the path he is on, that offer will come.
“That’s not really anything that matters to me because Dabo has already told me like, ‘Hey, we’re on you. We’re going to offer you,'” Brown said. “Just keep on developing, keep on working and good things will happen. So I understand watching Sammy go through it as well. It’s just kind of been accustomed to me.”
