In Saturday night’s win over App State, Stephiylan Green showed Clemson fans what they have to look forward to over the next couple of years.
After logging just 14 snaps and redshirting last season, Green saw the most extended playing time of his career to date in the 66-20 route of the Mountaineers and he did not disappoint.
The redshirt freshman was extremely active, finishing the night with three tackles, with two of those going for a loss, and his first career sack. Due to those contributions, the win was Green’s favorite to date.
“It was great,” Green said on Tuesday. “It was the first win that I have gotten to participate in so it was definitely my favorite game. Ever. Because I definitely got to contribute in that game. I made some plays, my teammates made some plays and it was just a great moment.”
While Green is more than proud that he notched his first career sack, the fact that the Tigers came away with a big win means even more.
“I’m proud of the sack of course, it was my first one, the first of many, but really proud of the win for real,” Green said. “I wouldn’t have gotten that sack without my teammates, without everybody just doing their job.”
Green came to Clemson as a highly-touted 4-star prospect, with multiple services ranking him as one of the ten-best defensive linemen in his class.
While he was on the team for some notable wins last season, including the big one over Notre Dame and the Gator Bowl victory over Kentucky, this one hit a little different because he was able to contribute.
“Just to celebrate with the team after the game, everybody running onto the field,” Green said. “Everybody taking pictures with me, noticing me, it just felt good and motivates me to want to do it even more.”
