CLEMSON – After last week’s win over Appalachian State, No. 22 Clemson will have the first bye week of the 2024 season on Saturday.
Freshman linebacker Sammy Brown spoke with the media earlier this week about the bye week and his performance in the App State game.
–Brown arrived on campus last January and has been working every day since. The freshman said, “It was really exciting to finally get out on the field and contribute to the team.” Brown recorded nine total tackles in the victory.
–The linebacker has been recruited since his freshman year in high school. Through the long recruiting process, Brown said that Clemson just “felt right.” He said, “I just felt like I couldn’t be anywhere else. I felt like it was God’s decision for me to be here and I don’t regret it at all.”
–The freshman said coming in the spring helped him slow things down. Now that the season has come around, he is better prepared for the speed of the game. In the spring, Brown said he was more focused on “what do I do on this call, locked in on what I’m doing. When we got to fall camp, it was more okay what is the defense here.”
–In the dominate win over App State, many players got playing time. Brown said, “I was really happy to see everyone get a chance. At one point it was me, Drew Woodaz, and C.J. Kubah-Taylor on the field at the same time, so it was really cool to see the three freshman linebackers out there.”
