CLEMSON — Clemson got a 40-14 victory over Stanford Saturday in a puzzling offensive performance.

In what hasn’t been seen from the Clemson offense since their game against Georgia in August, the Tigers found themselves punting multiple times and unable to sustain drives or find consistency. However, things change quickly when playmakers find their way into impacting a game.

One man who stepped up against the Cardinal was wide receiver Bryant Wesco, the Tigers star freshman who has been a dominant force for Clemson in a win over Appalachian State on Sept 7 and again on Saturday.

Wesco earned seven targets from quarterback Cade Klubnik. Those targets turned into two catches for 104 yards and a touchdown, which came early in the fourth quarter on a one-play drive, scoring easily and quickly on a 34-yard pass.

“I feel confident,” Wesco said. “Being able to get targeted, knowing that Cade can trust me with the ball, knowing I left stuff out on the table today but knowing he still looks at me.”

Even with over 100 yards, Wesco knows he missed out on more, only catching two of his seven targets. Whether it was from a good defender play, a short pass, or off the tip of his fingers, he couldn’t haul everything in. Yet, he managed to have such a huge impact on the game.

“I have the playmaking ability to make those plays,” Wesco said. “It’s just me working on being consistent and staying catching those things that come my way, even through traffic.”

Wesco has done a fantastic job doing so in the past four games, earning a combined 238 yards receiving as a freshman so far this season. He certainly has much more coming his way this year and for the rest of his collegiate career.

Clemson visits Florida State next week at Doak Campbell Stadium.
