Where Clemson Should Be Ranked, According to ESPN’s McElroy

On his Always College Football show, ESPN analyst Greg McElroy gave his top 15 teams in the sport, with the month of September in the books.

McElroy dove into “what the rankings should be,” and he says Clemson (3-1, 2-0 ACC) should be in the top 10 – at No. 9 – considering how prolific the Tigers have been offensively since the season-opening 34-3 loss to Georgia.

“I think their defense is still a bit of a work in progress. But what we’re seeing right now from their offense is next level,” McElroy said. “I know it’s Stanford, I know it’s NC State, I know it’s Appalachian State. But I think that this offensive output is something that’s going to be able to be replicated against the best teams in the sport, too.

“I think if Clemson played Georgia today, that game would look a lot different. Georgia might ultimately would win. That might ultimately happen. But I’m pretty sure Clemson would score a whole heck of a lot more than three points in the process.”

The Bulldogs round out McElroy’s top five, behind Alabama at No. 1, Texas at No. 2, Tennessee at No. 3 and Ohio State at No. 4.

Miami (No. 7) checked in a couple of spots ahead of Clemson in McElroy’s top 10.

The Tigers are ranked No. 15 in the AP Top 25 and No. 14 in the Coaches Poll entering their Week 6 matchup against Florida State in Tallahassee on Saturday (7 p.m., ESPN).
