Tigers in Position to Have ‘November to Remember’

Clemson is off this weekend, meaning the next time the 9th-ranked Tigers take the field, the calendar will have turned to November.

After the disappointing loss to Georgia in the season-opener in Atlanta, Dabo Swinney’s team has reeled off six consecutive wins and are currently 5-0 in ACC play. Clemson will look to carry that momentum into November, as the Tigers are hoping for a strong finish that might propel the program into the College Football Playoff for the first time since the 2020 season.

“We haven’t done anything yet,” starting center Ryan Linthicum said on Tuesday. “We have put ourselves in a great opportunity but like coach Swinney says, we got to make it a November to remember. So, one day at a time.”

Last season the Tigers entered the month of November sitting at 4-4. Clemson would go on to beat Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and South Carolina over the next four weeks. A win over Kentucky in the Gator Bowl saw the program finish on a high note, winning each of its final five games.

This season, the goal is the same. Although the reward for pulling it off this time around would likely mean locking up a spot in the ACC Championship with a potential playoff spot on the line in Charlotte.

However, to do it, the mindset must remain the same. Prepare for a faceless opponent and treat each game like its the biggest of the season.

“Just coming in and doing the little things,” Linthicum added. “Like I have said before, practice makes permanent. We talk about that every week. One practice at a time, one game at a time. Take every game like it is the biggest game of the year. No matter who it is. It is about how we play.”

That is the mindset as the Tigers head into the toughest stretch of the season. November will start with a home game against Louisville, then Clemson hits the road for matchups at Virginia Tech and Pitt. After that it’s back home to finish up against Citadel and rival South Carolina.

Those five games will determine the Tigers’ postseason fate, meaning there is a lot on the line and that is exactly the way this team would prefer it.

“Just continue to be physical,” Linthicum said. “Out three words are intelligence, effort and toughness. So if we just bring those three things to practice and these games then we will set ourselves up for a great November.”
