ESPN released its latest college football power rankings on Sunday, re-assessing its top 25 teams following Week 9 of the season.

Clemson (6-1, 5-0 ACC) remains in the top 10 of ESPN’s updated power rankings, though the Tigers dropped down to No. 10 after their open date this weekend.

Clemson was previously ranked No. 7 in the ESPN power rankings after a 48-31 victory over Virginia at Death Valley on Oct. 19 in Week 8.

Here’s what ESPN had to say about the Tigers as they get ready for this Saturday’s matchup vs. Louisville coming out of the open date:

The 6-1 Tigers are coming off their bye week, and it’s hard to find much to seriously nitpick about their defense in ACC play. Dabo Swinney needed to see improvement from the Tigers’ run defense after Stanford burned them for 236 rushing yards, and they responded by holding each of their past three opponents under 90 rushing yards. He’d also like to see their backups do a better job of getting stops. Clemson has allowed 107 points over five conference games, but 54 of those points were scored in garbage time when the Tigers were up big. Virginia dropped 21 points in the fourth quarter of their 48-31 loss last week. Competitive depth on defense is a must if this team is looking to make a deep CFP run.

Oregon (Week 9 win vs. Illinois) stayed at No. 1 in ESPN’s latest power rankings, ahead of Georgia (idle in Week 9) at No. 2. Texas (Week 9 win at Vanderbilt), Penn State (Week 9 win at Wisconsin) and Ohio State (Week 9 win vs. Nebraska) round out the updated top five.

As for ACC teams in the power rankings, Miami beat Florida State 36-14 on Saturday but fell from No. 4 to No. 6. Pittsburgh moved up two spots to No. 14 after its Thursday night rout over Syracuse, while SMU fell a spot to No. 19 after escaping at Duke with a 28-27 overtime win.

Clemson dropped two spots to No. 11 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll that was released Sunday, while the Tigers moved up one spot to No. 8 in the latest Coaches Poll.

Following its second of two scheduled open dates for the 2024 regular season, Clemson returns to action against Louisville at Death Valley this Saturday, Nov. 2. Kickoff for that contest is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
