4-star QB Decommits from Michigan, Clemson Named School to Watch

CLEMSON – Decommitment season remains in full effect, as 4-star quarterback Carter Smith backed off a verbal pledge to Michigan late Wednesday night.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound signal caller, out of Bishop Verot (Fort Myers, Fl) announced the decommitment in a social media post. Smith had been committed to the Wolverines since November of last year.

Shortly after the announcement, On3 named Clemson, along with Penn State and Wisconsin as schools to watch moving forward. While the Tigers are now looking for a 2025 quarterback after 4-star Blake Hebert flipped to Notre Dame just over two weeks ago, Smith does not currently hold an offer from Clemson.

Wisconsin already has a quarterback in the 2025 class in 3-star Landyn Locke and the Badgers have also yet to offer Smith. The blue-chip talent does hold an offer from the Nittany Lions, but Penn State also has a commitment from 3-star quarterback Bekkem Kritza.

With the early signing period set to begin on December 4, expect Clemson to make an effort at adding a quarterback to the class. Although, whether they get involved with this specific one remains to be seen.
