Riley Talks Progress of True Freshman Wide Receiver Tandem

Clemson offensive coordinator Garrett Riley has seen the Tigers’ talented true freshman receiver tandem make strides forward over the course of the 2024 campaign.

Bryant Wesco and T.J. Moore have improved “a lot” since the beginning of the season, according to Riley.

Wesco and Moore are both former five-star prospects who arrived in Tiger Town as highly decorated players from Texas and Florida, respectively, and they have shown flashes this season of why they were so hyped coming out of high school.

Wesco enrolled early at Clemson in January, while Moore was a summer enrollee.

“Especially as we talked about with T.J., just trying to expedite his process as he got here later than Wesco. But from a mental standpoint, they’ve really, really improved,” Riley said on Wednesday.

Moore has caught 16 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns while playing in all seven games for the Tigers. Wesco, meanwhile, hauled in 11 passes for 262 yards and two scores in five games prior to missing the past two games with an ankle injury.

Riley is pleased with how Wesco and Moore have approached things the right way since joining the program.

“There’s buy-in from those guys, we all know that. There’s no question about that,” Riley said. “They’ve proven that they’re able to handle the ups and downs that come along with this game – the coaching, the getting challenged, all these things that kind of go on that you don’t always see as fans or whatever.”

Riley noted that Wesco and Moore are benefitting from having veterans in Clemson’s receiving corps to look to and follow, along with the guidance of receivers coach Tyler Grisham.

“The good thing is they’ve got a room that you have Antonio (Williams) and Adam (Randall) and Cole (Turner) and guys that have been around a little bit now that they can kind of look to that way,” Riley said. “So, I think they’re getting good leadership, just from the other guys in that room, along with Coach Grisham and what he’s done to develop that room.”
