Tate did not have his helmet and was walking around very gingerly.
Following his team’s 24-14 win at Virginia Tech, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave injury updates on two of the Tigers’ starting offensive linemen.
Left tackle Tristan Leigh was banged up on Clemson’s opening drive against the Hokies. The redshirt junior was escorted to the locker room for evaluation, and TCI saw him in a boot after the game.
“He rolled his ankle and just wasn’t able to come back,” Swinney said during his postgame press conference.
Clemson was also without starting guard Marcus Tate on Saturday. The senior did not start the game, and instead Harris Sewell started at left guard.
“He’s day-to-day,” Swinney said of Tate. “We thought he was going to play. We fully expected him to be able to play. Definitely think he’ll be hopefully better by Monday.”
The 23rd-ranked Tigers (7-2, 6-1 ACC) will return to action next Saturday at Pittsburgh (12 p.m., ESPN).
