Injury Situation on OL Looks Bad for Clemson

CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave an update on the injuries to the Tigers’ offensive line heading into practice this week for Saturday’s game against The Citadel.

Swinney says that Clemson has nine players on the offensive line that cannot practice heading into Tuesday’s practice.

“We have some guys trending in a good direction, but as we sit on Tuesday we are trying to figure out how we are going to practice today,” Swinney said.

The Tigers (8-2, 7-1 ACC) lost left tackle Elyjah Thurmon to a foot injury on the first play of last Saturday’s game at Pitt. Thurmon started in the place of Tristan Leigh. They were also missing left guard Marcus Tate.

Thurmon is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday and will miss the rest of the season.

Clemson is already without Dietrick Pennington for the year, as well as Collin Sadler, Ian Reed and Watson Young.

Swinney did say, Leigh and Tate are trending in a good direction. He said Leigh is in a better position than Tate at the moment, but both are trending in the right direction.

“We have actually been pretty lucky, but we have hit a little rough patch with the situation with Tristan, Marcus and Elyjah,” Swinney said. “The worse case scenario happened.

“Then there is Sadler. He is the one that hurts more than anything because Sadler can play so many positions and is a good player. We will figure it out. There are no excuses. We just have to find a way to make it work.”
