CLEMSON – Barrett Carter’s time in a Clemson jersey is slowly coming to an end as he will be recognized on Senior Day against The Citadel prior to the 17th-ranked Tigers coming down the hill at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
After the South Carolina game last season, Carter had a decision to make. He could either decare for the NFL Draft or come back for one final season. He said the decision “was tough for sure, but I can truly say I have no regrets at all and I would make the same decision hundred times out of hundred.”
Entering 2024, Carter appeared in 38 games and has been a starter since his sophomore year. He said coming back he has learned a lot and created perspective for him that is going to shape him into the best man he will be and that is all he could ask for.
The linebacker said this moment is surreal for him. While at first, he said he didn’t think he was going to cry, he later said “I wouldn’t be too surprised if a couple tears flow.”
He added, “when I’m at the top of the hill and I touch the Rock and run down to my family, I don’t know what my emotions are going to be like then. I know my mom’s going to be crying…I’m just excited to embrace that moment with my family and Coach [Dabo] Swinney and all the fans and just get a win after that.”
Carter said his time at Clemson has “meant everything” to him. When he came to Clemson, he had the mindset to soak up everything he could. He wanted to not only develop on the field but off the field as well. Carter believes that he has done that with “high intention.”
The Georgia native’s love for Clemson is genuine, as he said, “I may call Clemson home one day, that’s just how special this place is to me.”
The senior feels like his time at Clemson has been so short and that he just stepped foot on campus. He gives credit to his “teammates, these coaches and staff, everybody that is a part of this that’s been a part of my journey has truly shaped me to be the man that I am today. It’s so sad that it’s coming to an end.”
