Highly-Touted Clemson Target Commits Elsewhere

Clemson has missed on one of its 2026 recruiting targets.

4-star CB Chaston “Chaz” Smith (McCallie School, TN)  announced a commitment to Notre Dame on Sunday, choosing the Irish over other finalists Clemson, Texas A&M, South Carolina and Indiana.

Smith picked up his offer from the Tigers back in June and last visited for the loss to Louisville early last month.

The 6-foot-1 defensive back is considered one of the better cornerbacks in the 2026 class. Rivals ranks him No. 91 overall, No. 7 among all players at his position and No. 2 in the state of Tennessee.

The Tigers already have one corner from the state of Tennessee committed in the 2026 class in 4-star Shavar Young Jr (Webb School of Knoxville). Rivals ranks him No. 154 overall and No. 10 among all corners in the class.
