Swinney Gets ‘Colorful’ FaceTime Call from Syracuse Coach

Syracuse did Clemson a huge favor on Saturday, sending the Tigers to the conference title game. Of course, thanks to Syracuse’s upset win over Miami, Clemson will play SMU next Saturday in Charlotte for the ACC Championship.

Following the Orange’s victory over the Hurricanes, Syracuse head coach Fran Brown sent a message to Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, saying in his postgame interview with ESPN, “Hey Dabo Swinney, congrats! I got you in, baby!”

As it turns out, that wasn’t the only message Brown had for Swinney.

During the ACC Championship Game head coaches teleconference on Sunday, Swinney revealed that he got a FaceTime call from Brown after the Orange beat Miami.

“That was wild,” Swinney said. “Put that in my memoir one day. That was a first. And he was hilarious on the FaceTime call.”

Swinney added that he didn’t know Brown had given him a shoutout on ESPN until a bunch of other people sent it to him.

As for what Brown had to say to Swinney on the FaceTime call?

“I can’t really repeat what he said. It was kind of colorful, but hilarious,” Swinney said. “I appreciated the call, and he was fired up, man. He was fired up, and excited for us.

“I can’t really repeat what he said. But that was a great call. I really appreciated that.”

The ACC Championship Game between Clemson (9-3, 7-1 ACC) and SMU (11-1, 8-0) next Saturday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., is set for 8 p.m. and will be televised on ABC. If the Tigers win the game, they will earn an automatic College Football Playoff spot as one of the five highest-ranked conference champions in college football this season.
