Clemson’s Penultimate CFP Ranking Released

The penultimate College Football Playoff rankings for this season have been released heading into conference championship weekend.

On Tuesday night, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee’s second to last CFP Top 25 rankings of the 2024 campaign were unveiled.

Clemson (9-3, 7-1 ACC) dropped down to No. 17 in the latest CFP rankings reveal.

Prior to last Saturday’s 17-14 loss to then No. 15 South Carolina (now No. 14 in the latest CFP rankings) at Death Valley, the Tigers were No. 12 in the CFP rankings released last Tuesday.

Tonight marked the fifth of six weekly playoff rankings shows televised on ESPN throughout this season. The CFP Top 25 announcements will conclude with the final reveal on Selection Day (Sunday, Dec. 8).

Of course, this is the inaugural season of the 12-team playoff format, which features the five highest-ranked conference champions, plus the next seven highest-ranked teams as determined by the CFP Selection Committee.

The four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded one through four and each will receive a first-round bye, while teams seeded five through 12 will play each other in the first round on the home field of the higher-ranked team.

The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played in the New Year’s Six bowl games, and the national championship game will continue to be at a neutral site.

Clemson is set to play SMU this Saturday in the ACC Championship Game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The game is set for an 8 p.m. kickoff and will be televised on ABC.

SMU is No. 8 in the latest CFP rankings.

If the Tigers win the game, they will earn an automatic playoff spot as one of the five highest-ranked conference champions.
