Clemson Decommit Explains Why He Flipped to Michigan

One of the decommitments that Clemson suffered in its 2025 recruiting class was Jordan Young.

The four-star safety from Monroe (N.C.) High School originally committed to Clemson on Nov. 2 before flipping to Michigan this past Sunday.

Young put pen to paper with Michigan on Wednesday, the first day of college football’s early signing period, and explained why he flipped from the Tigers to the Wolverines.

“The recruiting class wasn’t that good at Clemson,” Young said, via WBTV News (Charlotte) sports reporter Cam Gaskins. “I was the only DB at the time, so didn’t really see a bright future with that.”

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Clemson’s 15-member 2025 recruiting class currently ranks 26th nationally, while Michigan currently has the nation’s No. 7 class per the 247Sports Composite.

The Wolverines were one of the finalists for Young, as was NC State.

“Michigan was hitting up in the recruiting class, getting many guys that I would see that could help me and I could help them as well,” Young said. “I see Coach Morgan, he’s a great developer, and we’ve got a great relationship there. So, I feel like Michigan was that missing piece, so I just put it all together.”

Young is a top-225 national prospect according to most of the major recruiting services. ESPN ranks the 6-foot, 180-pounder as the No. 10 safety and No. 107 overall prospect in the 2025 class.

After a couple of decommits at the safety position, including Young, Clemson signed a 2025 safety on Wednesday in three-star in-state product Jakarrion Kenan, a former Rutgers commit.
